Overhang Saxion Hogeschool Enschede nominated

Zinkinfo Benelux, the trade association for thermal galvanisation companies in the Benelux, has nominated the overhang for the Benelux Trophy for Thermal Galvanising 2017 in the category of Characteristic steel components.

The self-supporting overhang consists of 300 mm high tubular steel profiles with different diameters and serves as sun protection for the Saxion University laboratories. Concatenated, the 1252 tubes form a gold-coloured flower pattern that repels the sunlight, although, seen from underneath, it is completely open.

The overhang is divided into seven meter parts, which are fully thermally galvanised, while at the point where the parts meet, the pipes are welded together.
